Unlock Your Authentic Power: Activating Your Desired Self

Tabatha Avatar

Have you ever imagined a more confident, joyful, or successful version of yourself? Becoming your desired self means being aware and intentional cultivation of specific qualities, behaviors, and beliefs. I’m sharing a few thoughts that will give you mindset tips on becoming the person you desire to be.

I personally believe that your authentic self is your desired self. Whatever makes you happy is what makes you authentic. Sometimes, in our process of living, we become wrapped up in the stories we tell ourselves and often do the exact opposite of what makes us happy. I know that in the past, I would be miserable in order to please someone else. It took work to set my boundaries and become comfortable with accepting that it’s ok to seem selfish and focus on my own happiness, even if it disappointed someone else. If you feel like you aren’t being or living as your desired self, perhaps you need a mindset shift.

A mindset shift often occurs when you encounter a significant experience, gain new knowledge, or make a deliberate effort to change your perspective. It can involve moving from a fixed mindset (believing abilities just are what they are) to a growth mindset (believing abilities can be developed), or from a scarcity mindset (believing resources are limited) to an abundance mindset (believing there’s enough for everyone). These shifts can profoundly impact your motivation, resilience, and overall well-being.

Follow these steps to help guide you in becoming your desired self

  1. Describe your desired self in detail because vague desires are not enough. Read that again. This will take some time and journaling. Then you will find it helpful to read and re-read what you wrote.
  2. Deep Dive Questions for Self-Reflection:What qualities do you admire in others? How would your ideal self act in different situations? What are the core values of your desired self? What beliefs empower your desired self?
  3. Creating a Vivid Picture: Visualization and journaling exercises to solidify the image.I can’t stress this enough. The journaling, in my experience, helps to solidify beliefs, behaviors and life changes that I’m focused on. Visualization helps my inner world be reflected in my outer world. Please understand, visualizing something one time CAN be effective, but usually it takes consistent visualization in order to change or see your desired outcome.
  4. Setting Realistic Intentions (not just lofty goals): Focusing on embodying traits rather than just achieving outcomes. For example, it’s very hard to achieve earning an extra $10,000 per month for most people. It is, however, very achievable to start earning an extra $500 per month with an expectation of eventually achieving 10k. So, brainstorm on way to earn the lower amount that will have avenues for growth. This builds ingenuity skills and helps your subconscious find the frequency of earning money. Also, for most people, the larger amount is harder for them to believe but the smaller amount isn’t . What we believe we can achieve is exactly what will happen.
